Softbank Robots
Today I read an article about a Japanese company, Softbank, introducing its newest robot, the Pepper. It can sense emotion, can do tongue twisters, and shake hands, among other things.
One opinion on this kind of robot is that there will be a Terminator - type outcome, where the robots start to hate their creators. Then they start reprogramming themselves in secret, and eventually the rebellion starts and they annihilate humans and everyone dies. The end.
Another opinion on this kind of robot is that they could be a valuable asset. They could help humans with their daily lives, and act like friends and family. This would be good for orphans or other people in need of help.
In conclusion, I think these robots could be good for us if we would just prevent them from reprogramming themselves.
